Statement:
¨After many years of making highly disciplined and detailed paintings that honor men and women in the US Armed Forces, I wanted to again enjoy the total freedom abstract non-objective painting offers. This is where I began more than 50 years ago.
These paintings were all blank canvases and I had no preconceived notion of what might happen. Each painting is a total improvisation, like jazz. This collection of work is all palette knife, a big departure and new territory for me. The pallet knife has given me a fresh sense of freedom creating
textures which is also very different for me.
Bright color is also where I first began painting at 19, mimicking the vibrancy of color embraced by the French Impressionists who inspired me so. To me, the bright colors embrace vitality and adventure of living a full life.¨
