Ed Heck

Biography:

The American artist lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. After completing his art studies at the New York School of Visual Arts, he initially worked as an illustrator for the American Museum of Natural History, also in New York. He created faithful drawings of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures for museums and relevant specialist literature. When Ed Heck watched the film “Jurassic Park” in the cinema with a colleague, he realized, that as an illustrator he was just as threatened with extinction as the dinosaurs in the coming digital age, which he drew every day. That's how Ed started, to design your own dinosaurs and characters, with significantly more artistic freedom.

Ed Heck quickly developed his current trademark: the white dog with big black spots and long black ears, whose puppy-dog look sometimes seems a bit perplexed and confused – a lovable little guy, that puts a smile on the viewer's face. The dog captured in a picture by the artist rather by chance has his living counterpart in “Puggle” Max (a cross between a pug and a beagle), which the artist gave a home. As man's best friend, dogs are a popular motif of Ed Heck, to which he gives human traits. In addition to dogs, there are cats, Birds, dinosaur, Monsters and other creatures, all of which tell little stories of everyday life on the streets of New York in the unmistakable style of Ed Heck, The humor of the picture is reflected in a correspondingly ironic title, which often alludes to American proverbs, reflects.

Ed Heck's pictures were first 1999 exhibited in New York City and were an immediate success. The reaction from visitors was overwhelming. Reactions ranged from surprised recognition to pure joy.
