Curtis Grayson

Biography:

Curtis Grayson, III discovered his passion for art at an early age. From his first drawings as a child to being inspired by the artwork featured on the television sitcom Good Times—later learning those works were from the collection of Ernie Barnes—Grayson developed a deep admiration for expressive, culturally rooted art. Determined to pursue his calling.

A pivotal moment in his artistic evolution came through his encounter with renowned collagist Benny Andrews, who introduced him to the dynamic incorporation of fabric within his work—an element that has since become a distinctive feature in his mixed-media practice.

Grayson works in oils, acrylics, watercolor, collage, and mixed media. His bold and vibrant color palette conveys movement, strength, and emotional depth. His paintings are characterized by powerful composition and expressive storytelling. Among his most celebrated bodies of work is the “Revelations Series,” inspired by Alvin Ailey’s iconic dance production. One piece from the series, “Dance of August,” was featured in HBO’s adaptation of Terri McMillan’s Disappearing Acts (2000), starring Sanaa Lathan and Wesley Snipes. His artwork was also commissioned for the McDonald’s “365 Black History” campaign honoring Black media legends and was featured in the film The Best Man Holiday (2013), directed by Malcolm D. Lee.

In 1995, Grayson founded Cemetic Expressions, which later evolved into Curtis Grayson Fine Art. The company was established to publish and distribute his work while promoting cultural awareness and positive representation through visual art. His practice centers on documenting lived experiences and preserving cultural narratives through a contemporary lens. Grayson’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and private collections. In addition to his studio practice, he is active in community and professional organizations and continues to expand his artistic research as he works toward his MFA.

Statement:

“I am a multidisciplinary visual artist working primarily in contemporary abstract expressionism. My work is driven by bold, brilliant, and vibrant color palettes that establish atmosphere and reveal my passion. Through expressive line, movement, rhythm, and flow, I construct a complex visual language that reflects both emotional depth and cultural consciousness.

I work across a variety of materials including oil, acrylic, watercolor, collage, and mixed media. Fabric plays a significant role in my compositions, particularly African textiles, stripes, polka dots, and patterned materials that create rhythm and movement within the surface. These elements allow me to manipulate positive and negative space while building texture and organic form. My paintings are developed intuitively—there is no preliminary sketch or rigid plan. Each work evolves organically, guided by energy, instinct, and spiritual alignment. I only create when my mind and heart are at peace, allowing positive energy to flow naturally into the canvas.

I am deeply committed to creating bodies of work as cohesive series. One example is my interpretation of cultural icons through a contemporary lens. In my portrait of James Baldwin, I imagined how he might appear in 2026—confident, intellectually sharp, and stylish in an alligator-print leather coat and Burberry scarf, twirling his glasses as he prepared a witty and incisive response. This piece reflects both reverence for his legacy and my creative reimagining of his continued relevance.

“Birth of a Cool,” inspired by Miles Davis, emerged from a vivid moment I witnessed in East Orange. A group of teenagers on bicycles took over a two-lane road on a hot summer day, performing extended wheelies and daring tricks while traffic paused in awe. The scene transported me back to my childhood and embodied pure style, grace, confidence, and freedom. The painting captures that spontaneous brilliance and unapologetic presence.

“Heartbeat and the Pulse of Cuba” was selected for the 2025 African Cuban Biennial, where I was honored to be one of 25 U.S. artists invited to exhibit at the Casa de África Museum in Havana. The work depicts Arturo Sandoval playing his trumpet, a woman with a Cohiba cigar, and drummers immersed in rhythm—symbols of Cuba’s vibrant musical and cultural heartbeat. Though I had never visited the island prior to the exhibition, Cuban viewers expressed astonishment at how authentically I captured its essence. The original painting is now in a permanent museum collection, with limited edition giclée prints continuing to be exhibited.

Across all of my work, I strive to record time, culture, and lived experience through expressive abstraction. My paintings are built on continuous movement and emotional resonance, inviting viewers not only to observe but to feel. Texture, color, and rhythm compel engagement, creating an immersive dialogue between the artwork and the audience.

Elena Salova

Biography:

Elena Salova is a dynamic and accomplished classical artist currently living and working in Spain. Originally from Ukraine, Elena’s artistic journey began in her homeland, where she pursued a comprehensive education in the arts. From 2003 to 2005, she graduated from the “Oberig” Art Courses in Kyiv, specializing as an artist-teacher and studio manager. She further honed her craft at the State Art School in Odessa, graduating with honors in 2009 with a specialty in design. Her dedication to monumental painting was solidified through her studies at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv from 2010 to 2014.

Elena’s career has been marked by a series of notable exhibitions, beginning with her 2013 showcase at Nueva Gallery in Kyiv titled Illusion. That same year, she participated in an art show in Moscow, followed by the compelling exposition Dialogues at Lavra Gallery in Ukraine in 2014. Her work continued to gain attention with exhibitions such as Time to Listen (2015) and Botany (2016). In 2015, she also presented her artwork at an art display within a luxury car show in the United Kingdom.

In 2022, Elena’s work reached international audiences with exhibitions in Berlin, Germany. Her career took a significant turn in 2023 when she began working as a restorer of 19th-century French art. During this time, her paintings were displayed in a temporary exhibition at the boutique 5-star Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, where all works were purchased by an Italian collector. Following this success, Elena established her own gallery, the Elena Art Gallery, in Seville, Spain, providing a permanent home for her artwork.

Proficient in classical techniques such as fresco, sgraffito, stained glass, and artistic mosaic, Elena has also mastered modern graphic techniques and developed her signature Multilayered Veil painting style. She has further explored contemporary mediums, creating her first ceramic installation in Seville after completing a ceramic art course. As an experienced art gallery owner and teacher with over a decade of experience, Elena’s paintings are included in private collections worldwide, and she frequently collaborates with art galleries across Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and the United States.

Biography:

Svetlana Kompel is a contemporary artist whose work bridges intuitive expression, color therapy, and emotional freedom. Her paintings radiate harmony, light, and joy, inviting viewers not only to observe, but to feel — and to experience meditation, positivity, and tranquility through color. With a background in color therapy, she approaches each canvas as a vessel of healing energy, allowing collectors to bring not only an artwork into their space, but also a philosophy of balance and emotional well-being. Svetlana explores the connection between inner states and visual form, transforming her compositions into meditations on peace and positivity. Every brushstroke becomes a step toward inner harmony and spiritual clarity. Known for her vibrant, soulful paintings and immersive creative performances, she invites audiences into a world where color becomes language and art becomes a powerful tool for self liberation.

Terry Lee Nelson

Biography:

Terry was born in Virginia and raised in Michigan and Ohio. When he was 15, he moved with his family to Greensboro, North Carolina where he resides at present.

His interest in art began at 17 when he took up photography, which has remained a passion of his ever since. It served him well over the years, including a stint as a portrait photographer, a return to college to study photography, and a career in commercial photography.

Then his disability overtook his life. When he lost his job, he took up painting after being inspired by a fellow photographer. He started his first painting Jan. 1, 2010. He has not stopped painting since then.

His has not been a perfect life. Through it all, his art has grounded him, given him an outlet to express what he feels and thinks.

Though he lacks formal training, he approaches painting as a serious endeavor. He respects the materials and has perfected his techniques over time.

“My work emerges from an intimate dialogue between instinct and restraint, where painting becomes both a record and a release of lived emotion. Through sweeping gestures, layered textures, and moments of rupture and stillness, I approach the canvas as psychological terrain rather than a mere static image. Color functions not descriptively but viscerally — carrying the weight of memory, longing, anger, and transformation. Each composition resists resolution, instead holding tension between control and surrender, reflecting the unstable, dynamic, nonlinear nature of feeling and emotion.
Rooted in the evolving experience of female self discovery, my work examines identity as something continually constructed, evolved, fractured, and reclaimed. My paintings trace cycles of vulnerability and control, exploring themes of bodily awareness, inner voice, and the negotiation between societal expectations and individual truth. Alfredo Laporta

Biography:

Alfredo Laporta was born in Barcelona in 1974 where he studied painting and illustration at the Massana and Llotja schools respectively. Years later he traveled to Basel with thecommission to carry out the murals and trompe l’oeil for the entire interior of the Drachen hotel. After four months in the Swiss city, Alfredo Laporta settled in Paris where he lived for three and a half years. There he made contact with the world of Parisian art and further developed my personal work. Alfredo Laporta returned to Barcelona where he stayed for eight years until in 2012 he traveled and settled in Berlin where he currently lives and where in 2016 he finished and presented the film “Auf dem Weg”. In 2019, the French government ommissioned he to carry out the him frescoes for the church “L’Annunciata” by Pianottoli in Corsica, France, where I painted its 31 m2 in the 21st century.

During his artistic career he has exhibited in different cities around the world, as well as made artistic works of various kinds.

Biography:

Lindsey McAlister OBE, JP, originally from the seaside town of Southport in North West England, has called Hong Kong home and her creative haven for nearly forty years. After earning a Creative Arts Degree at Southport Art College and Manchester Metropolitan University, Lindsey set out on a journey that would redefine Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.
Founder of the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, Lindsey is a driving force in the city’s vibrant arts scene. Her career spans nearly four decades and weaves together performing arts, writing, choreography, directing, and producing. Each project is rooted in her passion for inspiring creative expression and sparking innovation within the community.
Lindsey’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. In 1997, she was awarded
the MBE for her pioneering work with youth arts. Her dedication to promoting
UK arts overseas earned her an OBE in 2006, further solidifying her legacy as a powerhouse of creativity and a champion for artistic growth.
Whether in the rehearsal room, on stage, or behind the scenes, Lindsey McAlister continues to nurture new talent and bold ideas, ensuring that the arts in Hong Kong remain innovative, inclusive, and full of heart.

“My artistic vision is all about tapping into the heart of abstract expression, driven by curiosity, emotion, and a quest for authenticity. I approach each canvas with a sense of adventure—letting colors and shapes

At the core of my creative philosophy is the belief that true expression comes from embracing emotion, even the parts that feel fleeting or unpredictable. My
toolbox is refreshingly diverse—i reach for acrylics, decorative papers,

Yulia Shautsukova is a Russian artist who has lived and worked in Hong Kong for the last 15 years. Born in Moscow in 1977, Yulia Shautsukova has developed a deep interest in painting since childhood. She studied art at the Crimean University of Art and further studied at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Moscow. Yulia travels widely around the world to search for new colours and inspirations. Her paintings are collected by art lovers from many different countries.
Yulia Shautsukova regularly participates of International Art Shows
and the Russian Culture Festival in Hong Kong.

Glenn Girard Gordon

Biography:

Glenn Girard Gordon is an American Artist with over 50 years of provenance in places such as Malibu California, Aspen Colorado, Fairfax Virginia and Hannibal Missouri.

Glenn was born on Sept. 29 th 1963 in Washington DC. He began his artistic development at the age of 6 using watercolors, then turned to acrylics and in 2000 switched to oils. He started with representational subject matter using traditional techniques, gradually evolving into modern abstract over the course of his nearly five decades of work.

He’s been studying since he was 10 years old when his mother bought him a large collection of Art Books on the Masters. He drew so much as a kid that he got blood poisoning in the fingers twice! He spent his childhood traveling all over the world with his family…painting, drawing and sculpting. His family lived in DC, Virginia, Australia and Iran where his art was inspired and always evolving. He worked as an apprentice under the artist Jane Hermanson from the ages of 11-15 where he learned how to setup Art Shows and display Framed Art, and sold his 1 st piece of art at the age of 12. At the age of 15 Glenn won the Northern Virginia Sate Art Show in the adult division. He has gained recognition through various juried contests and won numerous 1 st Place Art Awards throughout the United States.

In his adult life he continued his travels all over the world and lived in South America, Germany and Indonesia. His art reflects his real-life experiences and his inner spiritual journey.

His spiritual enlightenment at the age of 24 also took his art from a darker perspective to vibrant, colorful transitions…a kaleidoscope of kinetic energy with a visual psychology of movement.

Biography:

Yuho’s paintings are amongst a wide variety of visual art, from abstracts to inks, her versatility as a creator truly shines in the diversity of styles. All of her pieces are different and unique in their own way, but they all stem from the same passionate hands that created them in the first place. Each painting features bold colors to convey and evoke a sense of emotion. Some may incorporate many colors, while a few may not, but they all carry a story that is painted across the canvas. Yuho wishes to spread this sense of passion and creativity into the world, while also inspiring many minds across the nation to do what they love. No matter one’s age, creed, or race, anyone can do anything they put their mind to. Everyone is extraordinary and their art will be too.
She born in Hong Kong, Yuho has also lived on both planes of the globe. Having spent time in Tokyo, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, she has garnered a global multicultural perspective, allowing her to implement many different cultural components into her art. Following in her mother’s footsteps as an art fanatic, Yuho chose to start her career as a jewelry designer before transitioning into a painter. In doing so, she discovered that creating art came naturally to her, and decided to pursue it further. Yuho places no boundaries for herself and will always think outside of the box. Thus, she uses many different mediums for her art that includes and isn’t limited to mixed
media, abstract, fluid paintings, etc. Having studied at The Art Students League of New York, Yuho’s desire to continue learning and drive to continue creating will never stop, forever looking for new things to inspire her.

Statement:

“I’m Yuho, an artist based in Los Angeles, New York and Hong Kong. While my work is best described as abstract, I primarily draw inspiration from the Earth’s beautiful natural resources as well as its
landscapes. My choice of tools often involves working with ink and acrylic as both mediums flow graciously and lusciously, helping me achieve my vision. Additionally, coming from a jewelry background,
which requires a great deal of imagination and creativity, I’ve been able to transfer those skills to my work as an artist. I have found it easier to visualize my painting’s setting, placement, color tones, and orientation before my paintbrush hits the canvas.
After spending years designing jewelry pieces, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to sparkle and sophistication. As such, when I paint, I look for bold colors to emit feelings of passion, freedom, and positive energy. To me, it’s most important to focus on formal color relationships and visual composition”.
